EMILY JAHNSEN
Freelance Filmmaker
Focusing on Environmental Documentary
Emily Jahnsen has always cared about the planet. However, cultural conditioning bred her interest in an Electronic Media major concentration, simply because it had a high probability of corporate success with various professional outlets. Naturally, as Emily was finishing her media degree at the University of North Florida, she became disenchanted by the mass manipulation from media.
Documentary film, on the other hand, spoke to her in many ways. She’d forever respect its power in being able to capture the present moment, instantly recording the past, to help comprehend the future. From a single semester of Documentary Workshop, combined with Film Studies classes for her minor, Emily knew which avenue of media she’d pursue. Understanding cinema as art and focusing on its capabilities for message-spreading, Emily envisioned applying her skills to aesthetically document society's essential shift in consciousness: capturing this pivotal time in humanity's evolution as we transition out of the destruction era.
The next component to developing her vocation meant following her other passion--care for the planet--through every aspect of her life...from grocery products to film projects. Though she currently identifies more as community farmer, Emily continues to utilize her cinematography skills to share her life’s endeavors of living and working with Earth-centered intent.
